Would Queensboro Bridge Windmills Threaten the Tram?

Apparently there is a video on YouTube according to the website WorldChanging that proposes to transform the Queensboro Bridge into a "site for gathering clean, renewable energy". The video is based on Andrea Polli's projects titled "The Queensbridge Wind Power Project".

OK, I don’t want to become one of those “not in my backyard” folks and I know the project is just a proposal but as resident that takes the Tram daily having one of those giant turbines in a position that close to the cables just scares the heck out of me.

Don’t get me wrong I love the concept and if the Tram was not there I would not even question it but the Tram is there. I don’t even care how much extra noise it would create. Residents on the two Riverwalk buildings under construction probably will though. And you know Sutton Place residents won’t want it on the Superstructure on their side of the span.

  1. the bridge is not strong enough to support the turbines - its fantasy architect porn, that's all.

the bridge originally had giGANtic flags flying up on top of the 'roman trireme' finials; they were removed in the 30s as the structure had become too rotten to hold them up. they COULD be strengthened, but then your costs are likely exceeding the money ever produced by the electric generators.
