Forrest Gump was moved due to its duration and the live band performance prior to the movie. Kung Fu Panda was moved because all other available rain dates for the movie vendor were already booked by a league on Firefighters Field. Southpoint was the only available option. As you may already know, we had to cancel Kung Fu Panda a second time due to thunderstorms.

Hi Eric,
This weekend, we will be showing movies back to back at Southpoint Park on Saturday and Sunday. Take a look at the flyer for more details. There will be a "Special Red Bus" available for pick up in front of the Chapel near 543 Main Street at 7pm. The bus will be designated for folks who can not make the trip down to the park by foot or for those who would just like to get closer to the gates. After the completion of the movie, transportation will be available outside the main gates of the park. Hope to see you there!
If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me.
Thanks.
Erica

Summer Movies at Firefighters Field - The View

OK, I have to admit this is a pretty cool picture of the June 21, 2008 showing of the movie The NeverEnding Story, presented FREE by RIOC, at Roosevelt Island's Firefighters Field. I still wish this year's Summer movie series was again being held at Southpoint Park as the 360 degree views of Manhattan and Queens are unmatched but this is not so bad either. Even I have to admit it is a cool way to spend an evening.
The above photo was provided to me by Erica Wilder, the Community Liaison from the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. I do not know who the actual photographer was but I am asuming it was Erica.
For those of you interested this week's movie, playing this Saturday night, July 19th, is Jerry Seinfield's "The Bee Movie" which again is presented FREE to all residents and visitors with a show time scheduled for 8:45pm.

Movie Night 6/21 : Choice of Features
Starting at 7:30 pm at the Roosevelt Island Visual Arts Association (RIVAA) residents can vew on the island the film "A Necessary Music" which was filmed on Roosevelt Island as a collaborative work between Beatrice Gibson and Alex Waterman. You can read more about this film by linking HERE to past blog posts about the film or linking HERE to the film's website.

Starting at 8:45 pm RIOC presents 'The NeverEnding Story" which is being shown on a large inflatable screen over at Firefighters Field. As previously reported the RIOC Summer Film Series has been moved this year from Southpoint to Firefighter's Field to allow for greater access as opposed to residents having to navigate the unpaved paths required to get to Southpoint.
