  1. The scary thing about transportation on the island is that we can get trapped here. The tram will be down......the subway service is just dreadful when it shuts down in one direction. The Q102 shows up when it can..happered by traffic conditions on 30th Ave, 31 Street, The Plaza and now the on going project on the bridge. One mishap on the bridge and we are stuck here, Some may remember the Con Edison fire that shut the Bridge down for hours a few months after 9/11 or more recently when it was stuck open a few months back all night!!!!! On top of the work being done on the Bridge will come the unnecesary openings of the bridge for UN week!

  2. As a new resident, it was a surprise that the tram will be shut down in 2009. No mention was made by the leasing department although I'm not surprised since it would not be in their interest.

  4. When the tram was down a few months ago, I was concerned about crowds taking the subway. I was surprised. Before moving here one year ago, I checked out the subway as if I were commuting. I had to let two trains go by before I could board. But when the tram was down, I got on the subway right away. Go figure.

  5. Figure that there are many people that are now unemployed, including on Roosevelt Island. Therefore we are able to get on the first subway that comes along. The tram also seems a little less crowded most mornings since January.

  8. When the Tram is shut down from July thru December, what happens if the F train is out of service during rush hour as it was last year for 3 or 4 hours? How are people to get on back on the Island by bus? Sure just join the extra thousand or so commuters doing the same trying to get home via bus.
