When we moved in 2006 to Roosevelt Island on April 18th the Tram went out of service so we did not step foot in the elevator at the Manhattan tram station until service returned in late August. Once we did we were momentarily perplexed as to what the "B" stood for on the control panel. As we never thought to ask it was some time before we learned that "B" was for Boarding.
If you travel with a child ask them to guess what the "B" stands for. I am guessing you will get a few interesting responses if they don't know the answer.
I've also heard from Tram employees that it stands for "Balcony"
ReplyDeleteSo does "G" stand for "Getting Off"?
ReplyDeleteI was told it stands for "bridge".
ReplyDeleteBe god this blog is family oriented. "G" is for ground.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the tram operator I spoke with last night the "B" stands for balcony as noted in the first comment.
While I am here did you all know that the 'star' next to the "G" is the universal elevator symbol for street exit or main exit?
Oops meant "good" not "g-d".
ReplyDeleteI meant "getting off" as in getting off the tram. If you thought otherwise, RI360, then you're the one who needs to be good.
ReplyDeleteNoted. Sorry. I have lived in NYC too long. And my response was partially being silly.
ReplyDeleteWe are actually lucky as this elevator is kept reasonably clean as compared to many elevators in the MTA transit system that must be treated with chemicals to counter smells left by those who have used the elevators as bathrooms. I can only assume, but have nevr checked, that the elevator is locked once the tram is closed each night.
Only Eastwood's elevators and stairwells are used as bathrooms.
