Giant Water Guns to Power Tram

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation in an effort to spur tourism, having learned something about the power of water from Olafur Eliasson's NYC WaterFall Project, has gone ahead and purchased giant water guns, actually canons, to be used to power the tram cabins back and forth across the East River.

When asked if this was considered a waste of water, an unnamed source at RIOC (it has been rumored) responded that the water meters on the island have not yet been fixed so NYC is actually footing the bill for this exhibition as well.

New Double Decker Tram Design Unveiled (spoof)

As opposed to the service cuts proposed by the 2009 MTA austerity budget the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation unveiled its new design for the tram. The double decker design took most residents by surprise as it was not expected that RIOC would be so forward thinking to take into account the island's growth and transportation needs.

There are still several right of way concerns that must be worked out as the tram is not allowed to drop below a certain height as it crosses Second Avenue. City Hall has stated through an unnamed spokesman that it is exactly this sort of innovation that the MTA needs to get us through the coming years. According to the unnamed spokesman "If they could build a double decker LIRR train and now the tram why not double decker subway cars" .

Roosevelt Island residents are fearful that the new design will be followed by a decoupling of the tram from the MTA metrocard system as it is rumored that the fare for the double decker tram will double to $4.

The girls over at Island Kids must have been standing outside Rockefeller Center too long this morning watching Miley Cyrus such that upon their return to Roosevelt Island they filmed the above spoof. Cute.

Sadr City II on Roosevelt Island ?

A few short months ago I reported here of another news report that the masses on Roosevelt island were protesting a possible move by Tony Blair to set up residence on Roosevelt Island.

Well it now appears that Mr. Blair if he is indeed living within our little planned utopia will now have to deal in addition with followers of Iraqi Shiite Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, at least according to that same news source that had Tony moving ashore. According to the story the plan is that we will be changing from a moderate low-mnddle income community to a totally different type of society.
